Chris Cooper

Counselling

Chris moved to Scotland in 1991 and completed a Diploma in Social Work in 1993 at Strathclyde University. He then took up employment in social work within Childcare, Community Care and Justice Teams, before moving to a Mental Health Team in 1999. It was here that he developed an interest in the value of listening and connecting with people who are experiencing distress. This led to a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling at Strathclyde University in 2003.

Since then, Chris has worked in private practice and in 2004 he went part-time in social work to focus on counselling. Now he is a Director of  Clydesdale Counselling and Human Development Project, and is also an affiliate to a number of Employee Assistance Programmes. He continues to work as a Social Worker in a Community Mental Health Team and is a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

Chris has an interest in all aspects of mental health and the development and causes of discontentment for the individual. He values focusing on the individual, their reality and their efforts to cope in todays hectic world. This may include issues of self harm, alcohol and drugs, eating disorders or the presence of depression and anxiety and the effect these things have on relationships.
