Acupuncture

An acupuncture treatment involves using fine, sterile needles inserted into the skin at selected acupuncture points. Western scientific research into pain has helped us understand how acupuncture might work. In particular, we know that acupuncture causes the release of natural pain-killing and healing chemicals within our bodies. In other words, acupuncture appears to help our bodies to heal themselves. In addition to reducing pain, patients often notice an improved sense of well-being after treatment. Treatment might be once a week to begin with, then at longer intervals as the condition responds. A typical course of treatment lasts 4 to 8 sessions. Acupuncture may be used to complement osteopathy or as a stand alone treatment.
